Cancer Support Programme

Delivering Holistic Cancer Care for Children

Cancer is one of the most devastating diagnoses a family can face, especially for underprivileged households with limited resources to continue treatment. In April 2023, SAJIDA Foundation launched the Childhood Cancer Support Program under SAJIDA Hospital to provide comprehensive, need-based assistance to children battling cancer and their families.

Expanding Access to Lifesaving Treatment

Partnering with leading oncology specialists and government hospitals, including Bangladesh Medical University (BMU), the program ensures uninterrupted treatment during the most critical phases. Initially focused on Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), the program expanded in October 2024 to include other life-threatening conditions such as Retinoblastoma (eye cancer), colon cancer, cervical cancer, breast cancer, and tongue cancer.

Providing Comprehensive Support Beyond Medicine

  • Covering treatment costs: Chemotherapy, diagnostics, medications, and consultations.
  • Reducing financial strain: Free accommodation for patients and caregivers near SAJIDA Hospital.
  • Supporting mental well-being: Counseling and guidance to help families cope with trauma.
  • Overcoming barriers to access: Transportation support for families traveling to Dhaka.
  • Ensuring proper care: Nutritional support for patients and caregivers during treatment.
  • Securing long-term recovery: Ongoing monitoring, relapse prevention, and follow-up care.

Anchoring Cancer Care Within SAJIDA Hospital

With an 80-bed facility that has served over 2.3 million patients, SAJIDA Hospital is committed to accessible, high-quality healthcare for low- and middle-income communities. Equipped with ICU, NICU, and dialysis services, and soon expanding to a 250-bed hospital, SAJIDA is strengthening Bangladesh’s healthcare system. The Childhood Cancer Support Program reflects this mission by ensuring no child is denied care due to poverty.

Building a Future of Hope and Healing

By combining medical treatment with shelter, nutrition, psychosocial support, and long-term follow-up, the program is setting a new benchmark for holistic cancer care in Bangladesh, anchored in SAJIDA Hospital’s vision of healthcare for all.

Dialysis Support Programme

Delivering Life-Saving Care for Kidney Patients in Bangladesh

Rising healthcare costs are forcing Bangladeshi families to make difficult choices, often sacrificing education or nutrition to pay for treatment. According to the HIES 2022 Survey, average monthly household health spending surged by 202%, reaching BDT 2,114.67 per month. For families facing Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), the financial strain is devastating.

Addressing an Urgent Public Health Crisis

CKD affects 16–22% of Bangladesh’s population, with nearly 11% in advanced stages (III–V). Each year, 50,000 people die from kidney dysfunctions. Dialysis, the only treatment option for end-stage kidney disease remains unaffordable for most:

  • BDT 6,000 per session on average.
  • 40% of patients stop dialysis after 2–3 months due to cost.
  • 90% of demand unmet by government dialysis services.

Providing Affordable, Accessible Dialysis Through SAJIDA Hospital

SAJIDA Foundation launched the Dialysis Support Program under SAJIDA Hospital to ensure low-income patients receive uninterrupted, life-saving care. Patients are selected based on socio-economic vulnerability through a rigorous process:

  • Initial interviews and hospital assessments documenting demographic, financial, and housing conditions.
  • Verification through calls and home visits conducted by the hospital team.
  • Ongoing monthly monitoring by a dedicated committee to ensure fairness, quality, and transparency in patient selection and care.

Reducing the Financial Burden for Families

Through this program, SAJIDA provides dialysis subsidies and financial support, removing barriers that force patients to abandon treatment prematurely. The program is anchored in SAJIDA Hospital’s mission to make quality healthcare affordable and accessible for low- and middle-income families across Bangladesh.

Shaping the Future of Dialysis Support in Bangladesh

By combining rigorous selection, financial assistance, and hospital-based support, SAJIDA’s Dialysis Program is pioneering a scalable, inclusive model of kidney care ensuring that no patient is denied life-saving dialysis because of poverty.
