Each year, over 5,000 children in Bangladesh are born with cleft lip and palate—conditions that profoundly affect nutrition, speech development, and psychosocial well-being. Due to limited access to specialised surgical care, many children from disadvantaged communities remain untreated. To help bridge this gap, SAJIDA Foundation, in partnership with Smile Asia, successfully conducted a week-long medical mission in June 2025. The initiative brought together a team of 45 volunteer medical professionals from 12 countries to deliver free cleft lip and palate surgeries at Sarkari Karmachari Hospital. Children were identified through nationwide outreach and a digital screening process. Those who registered underwent a detailed medical evaluation to determine surgical eligibility. Following this assessment, 76 children received life-changing surgeries that restored essential functions such as eating and speaking, enabling them to grow with confidence and dignity.
