We are honored to be part of the Social Resilience in the Sundarbans project — a Solution-Oriented Research for Development (SOR4D) initiative — implemented by SAJIDA Foundation in partnership with ULAB, IIT Kharagpur, and the University of Lausanne (UNIL), with support from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF).

At the recent SOR4D Seminar at SDC headquarters in Switzerland, SAJIDA Foundation shared its work on strengthening social resilience among subsistence farming communities in the Sundarbans.

Key insights from our research:
Communities in the Sundarbans strongly prefer agroecology-based livelihoods. However, they face several challenges, including limited land access, financial constraints, lack of local value addition, and weak market linkages.

Through our ‘living lab’ in Pratapnagar, we are:
- Promoting group farming through farmers' commons to overcome land and financial barriers
- Supporting local entrepreneurs in establishing an agro-processing factory to enhance value addition
- Strengthening market linkages to create sustainable economic opportunities

By co-creating solutions with the community, we aim to build long-term resilience in the Sundarbans.
