An insightful discussion session, titled “Nexus Between Poverty, Climate Change, Health, and Mental Health”, was hosted by SAJIDA Foundation as a part of the "6th CSD Annual Conference on Sustainable Development" on October 28, 2023 at the ULAB Permanent Campus.

This remarkable session gathered influential figures from diverse fields, including the esteemed Chief Guest, Dr. Syed Abdul Hamid, Director at the Institute of Health Economics (IHE), University of Dhaka.

In addition, the session saw the insightful participation of Rubina Jahan, Head of Clinical Service and Mental Health Programme of SAJIDA Foundation; Monira Rahman, Executive Director of Innovation for Wellbeing Foundation (IWF), Country Lead for MHFA Bangladesh (MHFABD) & Managing Trustee of the Bangladesh Mental Health Network(BMHN); Dr. Hafizur Rahman, Professor, Environmental science, Jahangirnagar University; Dr. Samiya Selim, Director and Professor, Center for Sustainable Development(CSD), University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) and Dr Haseeb Irfanullah, Visiting Research Fellow, CSD, University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB).

SAJIDA would like to thank the guests Dr. Shabab Wahid and Shababa Haque for their enlightening presentations in the session which brought valuable perspectives to the table.

The session explored the profound impact of climate change and environmental determinants on mental health in Bangladesh, with presentations by Dr. Shabab Wahid and Shababa Haque. Participants delved into the complex link between mental health, poverty, climate change, and strategies to measure this relationship accurately. Community-based approaches and the need to integrate mental health into general healthcare were also highlighted.

The aim of this session was to address the pressing issues and promote resilience in vulnerable communities.

SAJIDA will be hosting more such events in the coming months in a bid to share more knowledge and further the organisation's collective mission.
