In Satkhira, a coastal district of Bangladesh, local voices are shaping lasting solutions. Here’s how.
Farmers and local entrepreneurs in Pratapnagar, Satkhira, had long faced two pressing challenges: irrigation and adding value to crops locally. Guided by the insights from an ethnographic study under the ENGAGE4Sundarbans research-to-action project, those locally voiced concerns have now translated into real solutions.
A crop processing facility and solar-powered irrigation systems are now in place, empowering local farmers and entrepreneurs to shape their own climate resilience journey.
To mark this milestone, SAJIDA Foundation and the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh, as project implementers, jointly organised an inauguration event in Pratapnagar on 30 December 2025. The event brought together farmers, local entrepreneurs, community leaders, local government representatives, government officials, and NGO partners.
The discussions reaffirmed one message: community voices, shared ownership, and local innovation are the foundation of a resilient coastal future.
